Electives

BCH roof top lunch break from clinical electives

Residents have about four to five months of elective time distributed predominantly between their PL-2 and PL-3 years (with 2 weeks in the PL-1 year). Approximately two months of this elective time is without any call or cross coverage. All pediatric residents must complete seven months of subspecialty experiences. Because the BCRP curriculum incorporates several months of subspecialty experiences, residents may pursue a broad array of clinical and research interests during their electives, including rotations in complementary fields such as anesthesia, toxicology, transport medicine, international medicine, or surgery.  Residents also engage in non-clinical electives including leadership development, research and career exploration electives.  Many residents also choose to use their elective time for global health experiences.
