Electives

BCH roof top lunch break from clinical electives

In AY 2025-2026, the BCRP underwent a significant curricular overhaul amidst changing ACGME program requirements. In the BCRP, this means significant expansion in individualized curriculum for residents over the three years of residency (Interns 4 years; Juniors 16 weeks; Seniors 20 weeks). Because the BCRP curriculum incorporates several months of subspecialty experiences, residents may pursue a broad array of clinical and research interests during their electives, including rotations in complementary fields such as anesthesia, toxicology, transport medicine, international medicine, or surgery. Others partner with faculty to create their own electives, for example, developing a customized gastroenterological procedures elective. Residents also engage in non-clinical electives including leadership development, research and career exploration electives. Many residents also choose to use their elective time for global health experiences.
