Cardiology

BCRP junior residents spend 4 weeks as part of the inpatient cardiology team at Boston Children’s Hospital. The service is composed of four primary residents in conjunction with first- or second-year cardiology fellows and often several medical students covering the General Cardiology, Pulmonary Hypertension, and Adult Congenital Heart Disease teams. The residents work closely alongside a separate team of nurse practitioners and both teams benefit from an administrative medical teams associate. Each resident has primary responsibility for the evaluation and management of patients with a wide range of congenital and acquired pediatric heart diseases, under the supervision of the cardiology attendings and fellows. Daily teaching conferences and weekly simulation experiences are presented by faculty cardiologists and are geared exclusively to residents and medical students with a focus on core topics in pediatric cardiology. This ranges from EKG reading and understanding cardiac catheterization data to care of patients with complex congenital heart disease.
