Senior in Charge Rotation

Senior in Charge is an overnight rotation Sunday through Thursday at Boston Children’s Hospital features a senior resident who will be the inpatient leader to assess the acuity of inpatient teams and assist with clinical care across the hospital by discussing challenging patient scenarios, assisting the overnight pulmonary intern, and offering to offload some clinical tasks as needed. If the situation warrants activating the back-up system, the Senior in Charge will contact the Chief on Call to bring in additional support. At other times the Senior in Charge will assist with some clinical tasks or discuss management options for challenging clinical cases. The Senior in Charge also carries the code pager and attends codes and does general pediatrics consults on other services. In the morning at 7:45 am, she/he will report on the State of the Hospital at Morning Report.
