Orientation for the day begins with breakfast at 7:30 AM. Half the group starts at Children’s Hospital and half at Boston Medical Center. There is a single interview and a tour at each hospital by one of the BCRP residents.
The interviews are low key and are meant to be an opportunity for applicants and faculty to get to know each other. An effort is made to choose interviewers who have something in common with the applicants, though this is not always possible. Applicants also attend one of the morning teaching conferences and participate in informal information and question-answer sessions. They are then transported to the other hospital, where they lunch with the residents and repeat the itinerary.
The day officially ends at 4:30 PM; however, there is an optional Happy Hour from about 5:30 pm to about 8 or 9 pm, hosted by the residents. This is a great chance for those who can stay to talk with the residents and is highly recommended. Most applicants tell us this is one of the most important parts of the day.
Some applicants may wish to extend their visit to allow more time for observation on the clinical services or to meet individuals in their specific areas of interest. We are happy to help make such arrangements, if desired.
